I am excited to read about Bailey's story. I will blog about chapters 1 and 2 by the end of the day!
Good morning! I hope you were able to get this new address working and start reading Bailey's Story.....
In chapters 1 and 2 I learned that Bailey is very curious and active. He didn't have the patience to wait for a person to chose him, he went searching himself for a special someone to look after! It's hard to believe dogs are so ok with leaving their families and moms at such a young age!
One way this book is the same as Molly's Story because both puppies take time to open their eyes in the beginning and they spend their days rolling around their brothers and sisters and drinking milk from their mother.
One way this book is different is Bailey seemed to already know his purpose was to find a human and be with them, where Molly found that out along the way. I feel that Bailey is more self-aware.
What are some similarities and differences that you see?
Similarities: They both had multiple people caring care of them (switching owners). Differences: Bailey has a more active role than Molly did; Bailey wanted to run away to find the person; Molly just waited.
Hello I do not have the actual book I have the E Book on my phone. I did not look at the notebook so I did what I visualized instead of what I learned. But, for the rest of the book I will do what I learned.
"I'd head straight into the wind, which was bringing me wonderful new smells every second. Damp, rotting leaves trees! Pools of water! Squirrels! Mice! Worms!" Visualize: a dog's personality and a good sense of smell
"Yes, I decided. My name could be fella. I would stay with this man. I could do this dog, do what he told me, go where he went. That was what I was supposed to do, Wasn't it? Stay with the person? I was pretty sure that that was true. It felt Right." I learned: Bailey is not trained, possibly dumb and really wants an owner
"When I awoke, the sun was more than warm. It was hot. The air in the truck was damp and tasted stale. I started panting." Visualize: I can see a dog passing out and nauseated. Connection: My dad said there is a new Toyota car coming out with "dog mode" which keeps the temperature of the car at 70 degrees, even while the car is off.
"She smelled clean, like soap, and sweet, like flowers, and there was an animal odor on her clothes, one I'd never smelled before." Visualize: Bailey can smell the smallest scent on people's clothes. I think the animal smell may be another dog or a cat.
"His hair was dark like the woman's, cut short, above his ears. He was smaller than she was. His head didn't come up to her shoulder." Visualize: 7 or 10 year old boy, maybe he looks like a boy I know named Drew (dark brown hair, short haircut, about my size).
"He smelled fascinating , of sweet and soap and mud and something meaty that he'd been eating, and also of the same animal it smelled on the woman's clothes." Visualize: Maybe candy smell, soap from the shower, maybe he had a hamburger or taco for lunch, maybe a dog or cat smell (maybe they have an old dog or a house cat or maybe it's a neighbor's pet).
AND A LOT MORE so I'm going to stop there.
I think the book is pretty good so far. There was a lot of visualization and descriptiveness in the first chapter when he was in the shelter. The author is trying to lead us into the story.
I was surprised that Bailey was switched to different owners like 3 times. I was not surprised that she broke the window to save Bailey. If someone did that now, they would have to pay a fine and go to court. I was not surprised that she brought him home to her son.
We noticed that Bailey always came to when Ethan said boy and Molly always would return to CJ when she said a special word, "But I cant remember that specific word, but I think Molly could." We figured out that Baileys name was picked out with Ethan calling different names and saying things about them.
Wow! You had MANY great quotes...nice visualizing!
I learned that Bailey had a hard time going to the bathroom outside and he had many accidents inside! He was confused why the family would get so excited when he went inside...ha!
I will write my comparisons and differences on chapter 3 and 4, in just a bit, after my kids are off to bed......
Good morning! I fell asleep last night on the couch, so I am writing about chapter 3 and 4 today and then I will BLOG again later on 5 and 6.
So a similarity I noticed in 3 and 4 is that Bailey and Molly had "games" that they did and did not like. Molly didn't like the game called "Sit Behind the Stairs and Be Quiet". And Bailey likes the game "Clean the Plates". They both think these things are games! Ha! Both of them were done when mom wasn't watching.
Something different is that when Molly was left alone she never made a mess and (for the most part) behaved and slept until CJ came home. But this Bailey....he has ruined the garage. I don't think his parents will be to happy. At least he did all this damage in the garage instead of in the house! Yikes! I will write again later today....
On page 64 the quote is I add him with suspicion. There was just something inside Todd but I just didn't trust. And something that seemed to be stronger now that he was on his own, with no humans nearby. I noted Barry has suspicions which is smarter and other humans to know who this boy is and if he'll cause trouble or not. I thought that he means trouble. another one is I began too worried that I might have missed the time when even was supposed to get off the bus what would you do without me there to greet him, I noted that Eathan was thinking what would Baily do without me and Bailey is thinking the opposite. Even though it would be worried. A lot of time to ourselves that someone would miss him when what's the opposite way around.
I never got back on the blog yesterday for these chapters, so once again, I will try to hop on again for chapters 7 and 8 later today. But here are some comparisons and differences with Molly's Story.
Remember we are not quoting and visualizing for this book. Look and think about things that are the same as Molly and things that Molly and Bailey do not have in common. Here are mine:
I learned that Bailey does NOT understand why he is left alone! He even ruined his bed that was inside of his dog house. He is a feisty one!
Molly and Bailey are similar when they both find it hard to sleep without their owners, Cj and Ethan.
They are also different because in Molly's story the mom tried to always get rid of Molly and in Bailey's story the parents try to fix the things that Bailey ruins so that Ethan can keep the dog.
Quotes... "A bath? What was that? I couldn't remember. Was it something to eat? That would help make up for all of this ridiculous treatment." I don't think that Bailey has ever had a bath to get the stink off of his fur from the stunk spraying him.
But remember Charlotte, we are not doing quotes and visualizing....we are COMPARING AND CONTRASTING this story to Molly's Story.
BLOG LOG: Chapters 7 and 8
I learned that Bailey loves when Ethan does not have to go to school. He is learning about seasons and at this point in the story, Bailey is a year old. I think he likes snow only a little bit, but only because Ethan does. It seems to hurt his paws after a little while. This happens to my dog too. He definitely loves summer and his stay at the grandparents farm!
This story is like Molly's Story because Molly and Bailey meet other animals outside of their home. They don't meet the same animals though.....Molly meets more dogs and Bailey meets farms animals...AND A SKUNK!!! TWICE!! Oh Bailey! Such a young, curious pup!
This story is very different because Bailey is left in the garage and sneaks his way into the house, makes a mess all over and the mom and dad don't kick him out (although some of the mess was that cat!). In the other story, Molly never got herself into mischief and that mom wanted her out.....the mom even thought Molly was dangerous...ha!
I learned that Todd cannot be trusted and he keeps trying to get Ethan into trouble. I am happy that Ethan did not give in to peer pressure and throw the eggs at his friend! Phew! That would have been bad! Emily would not have understood why Ethan did that!
Molly's story and Bailey's Story are the same because the main characters have a best friend that have a pet dog as well and they are true friends through the whole story...both dogs even wrestle together and get along!
These stories are different in these chapters because the suspicious bad guy is Ethan's next door neighbor, Todd, and in Molly's Story, the bad guy is the mom! I didn't like how Todd was staring through Ethan's fence. I predict his tricks have not ended....he scares me!
Right I learned that Todd is not worthy and no one, Bailey or Ethan can have hope in him. I am so glad that he did not fallow things that Todd is trying to make him do.
Molly's Story and Bailey's Story are similar because both dogs have faith and a friendship with their kids/owners. Throughout the whole story they don't leave their owners sides unless something happens.
The differences in these two books are that Todd is the mean person and the mother is the one in Molly's story that does not let CJ have Molly, a not harmful dog in her house for no reason.
It's like Todd is stocking Ethan because of when he was peering through Ethan's fence. Maybe he is jealous about Ethan having a nice dog and he wants her.
"I loved it at the farm, and I loved the happiness that poured out of Ethan when we were there." Bailey's story is like Molly's story because both dogs are having quality time with their people/owners. And that's what makes both dogs happy. I also thought it was cool that the author was actually writing about Bailey's vacation and how he enjoyed it.
"The car rolled off down the driveway and Ethan and I solemnly watched it until it was out of sight. Then... 'Come on, Bailey!' Ethan shouted. Everything was suddenly more fun. The boys ate some lunch." They are going to stay home with Bailey and Ethan when Mom, grandma and grandpa are going on a two-day long trip without him nor Bailey. He's home on vacation alone with Bailey. I just thought this was cool.
"Go bite the snake." I said in my head, go protect Ethan. Molly tried to do whatever she could to protect CJ, even when she didn't need to.
Hi there! I am writing this on Sunday morning because I am at my cottage again and couldn't get that internet to work yesterday! Sounds like you have been enjoying the book and how Ethan was left alone with Bailey while the mom and grandpa left for 2 days. I wonder what sound Ethan heard late at night? That would scare me too!
I learned that Bailey doesn't like when Ethan is riding Flare. Bailey said he seems to high and far away up on his back and that Flare is as smart as a box of rocks! Ha!
A similarity I read was when Bailey sat and slept in grandpa's chair when he knew he was not supposed to. Molly would sit on the living room couches when CJ's mom was not home! It's funny how they know they are not supposed to do that, but just too cozy to resist.
A difference that I see is that when Ethan's mom left she told Bailey to watch after Ethan and take care of him while she is gone. That shows that she respects and knows that Bailey will always be there to protect Ethan. CJ's mom had NO respect for Molly and tried to get that dog out of her house all the time. She could never see that Molly was the best thing for CJ!
I am at the edge of my seat at the end of chapter 12.....how will Ethan get Flare back? Will Flare know his way back...can he follow the scent of Bailey since he made his mark all over the forest?! Ha!
Hope you are enjoying this beautiful summer weekend! HAPPY READING!
I am doing Mondays reading and blogging because I am really on a full scheduled tomorrow
Chapter 13-14
Ethan was lost and Bailey had to sniff a man that was looking for him because his mom was home and they could not find him. Bailey had to sniff out the truck to find their way home...
I quoted that Bailey said, " Our walk was not as good as the first one. Not at all." I wrote that Molly did not enjoy the walks as much as Bailey enjoyed them. Not that that is the exact quoted but it is the one about walking.
"These days, Ethan didn't cry as much as when he was little." Both dogs, Molly and Bailey, both want to take care of there owners no matter what.
What did you do on your busy schedule day? I am just a bit behind, but will catch up today. We stayed at the lake an extra day, so I did not have internet on Monday. But what was really cool is that Tanner and Lanie learned how to knee board and they both got up on their first time! Do you know what knee boarding is?
BLOG LOG: Chapter's 13-14
I learned that Ethan's parents were more concerned about him rather than mad at him. Even though there was a talk after he came home from the hospital, he wasn't in a lot of trouble. And I knew that horse Flare was going to be back at Ethan's house! I just knew it!
A similarity is that both CJ and Ethan got lost away from home. I think CJ always knew where she was, but she was emotionally lost; Where Ethan was REALLY lost. While these two characters were "lost", they both had a hard time finding food to eat.
A difference is that Ethan wound up in the hospital and CJ was only hungry. And Ethan's family actually sent people looking for him, but Cj's mom did not.
I will also Blog on the next 2 chapter's tonight....15 and 16. We are meeting again soon on Thursday for ice cream and to chat more about our books!
Did you still want to read that one book you had in mind.....the name is escaping me right now...
Let me know so I can check it out at the library before Thursday.
I had to see friends from Kansas. I also had a sleepover.
Reading 15-16
On page 144 It said,"Hey Bailey, want to come to the ball game? Ethan would ask" I thought that related to Molly because she was always excited to go everywhere.
Bailey was also always excited when Hannah came. Molly was excited when new people came, too.
When Bailey let out a grown I laughed, Bailey was trying to save Hannah from Todd. I have said this before B but I will say it again, dogs go out of their way to protect their humans.
Sorry I am in a hurry so I am writing a less than usual.
Chapter 17-18
In both stories they both have a bad guy and someone who doesn't cooperate. In this story it was Todd, in Molly's story it was ether the guy that say molly and said they got complaints or her mom and Gloria.
There is always something that stops the bad guys because on page 163 Todd had to pick up his little sister. With Molly, CJ explains everything, she is the chatty type.
Oh I forgot Chelsea got a new dog because the other one died. Her puppy that is not trained is called Duchess.
Todd put a fire in their House????!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? WHAT!!!!! So much description I can not describe it. I will talk about it when we meat.
You are right Charlotte, this book is A Lot like the movie!!! This book end has a happier ending though! The movie is so sad when he doesn't get to go off to college and play football. If this book kept going, it might head in that direction?!
I learned that one Christmas Ethan got his mom a cat named Felix that Bailey did not care for. But i the end, they became closer and Bailey almost felt like the cats mom. They got close when Ethan was in rehab for his leg.
Something similar that happened was that in these two books was that in the end both CJ and her boyfriend were happy together and in this book, Ethan and Hannah were together and laughing down by the water at the farm. I'm glad it ended happy with them because this was not the case in the movie. In the movie Ethan told her to go away. I like this ending better!
I noticed this book was different from Molly's story when Todd gave Bailey that piece of bad meat, he didn't eat it. But in Molly's story, she always ate the meat that CJ's mom gave her. Although the meat fro Todd was probably poisoned. Good thing Bailey did not eat it! That could have turned out bad!
I wonder why this particular book became a movie and the other's didn't? We can discuss this when we are eating are donuts.....yum!
Good morning! I hope you were able to get this new address working and start reading Bailey's Story.....

ReplyDeleteChapter 19-20
Cool---
Todd needs EIGHT STITCHES from Baileys bite???!?!??!??
I am not going to relate all to Molly's story but some.
Bailey was rewarded by finding the person that was started the fire. TODD!!!!!
They did a blood test and scientifically it is true.
Related to Molly's story--
Always missing person, CJ or Ethan
They had to go to a apartment and have changes like in Molly's story they had a lot of changes.
Bailey was depressed when his boy was not there, molly was sad when her kid was not there.
Like Molly she could tell the feelings in her person.

ReplyDeleteYou are right Charlotte, this book is A Lot like the movie!!!
See you Soon!
I love happy endings.......
I love happy endings too!!!!!
